The Winter Solstice has been honoured for thousands of years as a time of mystery, renewal, and reverence. In this course, students will journey through the ancient and modern traditions of Yule β exploring its origins, folklore, deities, spirits, rituals, and evolving cultural expressions.
From Norse and Anglo-Saxon celebrations to Slavic winter spirits, from the rebirth of the sun to household deities and midwinter feasting, this course offers a rich and immersive study of the seasonβs magic. Students will discover how Yule was once celebrated, how contemporary Pagans are reviving and reimagining its rites, and how to craft a deeply personal, meaningful Solstice practice.
Through mythology, ancestral customs, ritual design, creative crafting, and devotional work, students will learn to weave Yule into both personal spirituality and community celebrations.

This course includes a combination of reflective practices, quizzes and a short assignment. The assignment will be submitted through Canvas and assessed based on:

Expect approximately 1β2 hours for completion of the quizzes and final assignments, plus time for reading, reflection and note taking.
